Sunset in the Sonoran Desert in southern Arizona where The giant Saguaro Cactus grows, These tree like cactus live to be over 150 years old, and can take up 75 years to grow an arm, and can grow to a height of 15 to 50 feet.  The Saguaro blooms at night, with white and yellow flowers, primarily from April to June.  The flowers remain open and bloom into the morning, then close by about noon, never to open again.  Bats are one of the primary pollinators of the Saguaro, along with the whitewing dove.  Saguaro is an Indian word, the correct pronunciation is “sah-wah-ro” or “suh-wah-ro.”
