Saturday and Sunday December 4th and 5th the Battle of Prairie Grove Arkansas was reenacted at the actual location, now the Prairie Grove Battle Field State Park. The battle reenactment occurs every other year on the even years, and is one of few in the nation to take place on the actual battle field, which is one of the most intact Civil War battlefields in the country. The original Battle of Prairie Grove, fought on December 7, 1862, saw about 22,000 soldiers fighting most of the day, with about 2,700 killed, wounded, or missing. For additional information on the battle Explore Southern History has excellent information on the Battle of Prairie Grove.
The images in the gallery were taken on Dec 4, 2010 and have been edited to a sepia tone with a heavy vignette to to add to the historic appearance of the reenactment.

Battle of Prairie Grove – Images by Greg Disch
Greg your pics are wonderful. I was so upset I could not attend, but still not over this cold entirely…had it about 12 days now, and just cough and cough. I found some spring and summer Civil War events; posted them to the Yahoo.group calendar. Maybe we can go to one of them. I loved the shadows on the men’s faces; added so much. Gloria
