June 17 -19, 2011
Just because you have just captured some great images during the “Magic Hour” does not mean it’s time to put away the camera and quit shooting. Some of my favorite images are from “Night Photography”. The same scene you shot during the daylight will take on a whole new dimension after dark. With digital photography, subjects that were nearly impossible to shoot a night, are now obtainable by nearly everyone.
This workshop is designed to teach you what you need to know to make fantastic night or lowlight images. You will learn to set your camera manually for long exposures nessery for night photos. You will learn techniques such as “Light Painting” to add a creative touch to you images.
We will spend time in the classroom each day, learning the basics of Night Photography and reviewing images from the previous night’s shoot. During classroom sessions we will focus on developing our images with Adobe Lightroom
While in the field each night, photographic techniques and creative inspiration will be discussed, demonstrated and put into practice. We will all work closely together, sharing our knowledge and observations. Locations will be chosen to introduce participants to some of the different types of lighting situations encountered at night.

We will meet back at my personal studio/classroom and spend the afternoon with more in depth instruction into special techniques for different types of night photography and due some processing of images from the night before.
We will go to dinner at about 5:00 and then travel to the location of our night shoot, planning to arrive well before dark ( You will want to shoot here during the daylight as well), and again stay until approximately 11:00 pm. We will be shooting at the abandoned hospital at Fort Chaffee which is normally closed to the public. The medical complex at Fort Chaffee opened on December 7, 1941 (Pearl Harbor Day). The medical complex itself is an enormous site with 128 buildings all held together by long hallways. The complex has its own exchange and theater. It even had its own four lane bowling alley, not to mention being a 1,595 bed hospital. You will need to sign a waiver of liability to be allowed access to this restricted area.
